Brass dial shelf clock, 1790-1800.

Mahogany shelf clock with a cove and ogee molded cornice with a flat top. Top section with pierced sidelights, molded front corners, rectangular door with triangular glazed reverse-painted spandrels, a bell-shaped opening with black and gold reverse-painted glazed door, and narrow pierced fretwork outlining the door. Top section supported by bracket feet. Bottom section with cove and ovolo molding cornice, and a rectangular door with fluted pilasters at the sides. Door opens to reveal a paper covered panel with an "experimental clock" with engraving of two hour dials surrounded by drawings of the planets. Bottom section supported by straight bracket feet. Circular brass dial with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals. The plate below the dial bears the inscription "Simon Willard Roxbury Street."
